A local travel agent has sued a group of international airlines over a ticket sales contract.
Bentley Travel Ltd of Nairobi wants the Geneva-based International Air Travel Association (IATA) restrained from unilaterally terminating the company's travel agency, withdrawing traffic documents and demanding accounting and payment of money due.
IATA, Bentley says, travel should recover outstanding dues from Mercantile Life & General Assurance Company.
The travel agent wants association officials Abdul Khalfan and Valerie Jackson ordered to reinstate the company's ticket stock and benefits it previously enjoyed as a member.
Bentley is also seeking damages for alleged wrongful termination of travel agency, loss of business, esteem and embarrassment.
IATA allegedly failed to issue a 24-hour notice before terminating the agency. The association also failed to take into consideration that the company had remitted Sh1.5 billion since the interaction between the two started in 1995.
But in defence filed in court, IATA says the suit was incompetent and should be dismissed with costs.
A commercial court set the case mention for October 17.
